Choose The Right Rug And Transform Your Home
Written by Jon Kilminster
Putting a rug on the floor is one of the simplest things to do, but yet can revolutionize the way your room looks.
These days rugs are available in a huge variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Not to forget some off-the-wall design that can add a great focal point to an otherwise bland room.
If you're looking fr a rug that really draws the eye, then go for something with bright colors and a bold design. The bright colors can be anything from bright yellow, through to orange and pink. Some are shocking, but really do a good job of drawing attention to themselves.
The design can range from the "traditional" bold designs of zebra and tiger prints (great for kids rooms or placing in front of a fireplace) right through to "modern" bold designs. These can be abstract artworks, bold splashes of color and shape.
Put one of these rugs down in a room or hallway and the splash of color really makes the rest of the room appear vibrant.
On the other hand, if you want something a little more subdued, there are many designs on the market to accommodate your taste. The more subdued rugs can be plain styles in dark earthy colors, or with simple designs with little color.
These rugs are ideal for attracting attention to another piece of furniture rather than themselves. Use them for placing beneath or beside a coffee table for instance, to give a good base or a "rug marker" for the furniture.
And when it comes to price there's really no need to pay a huge amount of money for your rug.. If you want real quality, you might want to consider a wool rug. But remember that cheaper rugs made with synthetic fibers such as nylon can look just as appealing and can last as long.
Don't forget the old favorite: a fur rug. This can really add a distinctive appearance to your home. It makes a real statement, and is good for curling up on in front of the fireplace! If you want a real fur rug then that means expense, of course. But here again, there are cheaper options available by choosing synthetic fibers over the real thing.
Another option is the braided rug, which gives a feeling of comfort to the room while imparting texture and color. Again there's a lot of choice out there, but if you really want something distinctive you can even try making one yourself!
Whatever your choice of rug type and design, there's no doubt that a well-placed rug adds real character to any room.
