Remodeling A Bathroom: Things You Should Know
Written by Jon Kilminster

Remodeling a bathroom is something everyone thinks about but often never seem to get around to doing it. The amount of work needed to turn your tired, drab washing space into something magnificent seems just too much work.

It will take months of chaos to get it the way you would like it. And so you just leave it, and put up with not enjoying the space.

This is a shame, because first a bathroom is more than just a space where you wash and clean your teeth. It's a place where you can really relax. This is especially true after a hard days work. There's nothing better than a place where you can literally wash away the stresses and strains of the day before sitting down to dinner feeling totally revived and refreshed.

But what about that bathroom? How can that jaded room be refreshed? An important thing that many people never seem to realize is that the refurbishment really doesn't have to take place all at once. We all love the exhilarating feeling of going into a newly redecorated or refurbished room and being amazed at the transformation. But trying to do it all at once can lead to a lot of stress and, worst of all, giving up before the job is properly finished.

So a way around this is to do the bathroom in sections. The bath first. Then maybe the washbasin and vanity. Take time to do the remodeling, and the finished result will be as good, if not better than if the job had been done all at once.

The key to doing a job in pieces, though, is planning. Fail to plan and you plan to fail, as the saying goes. So before you even lift a finger to knock in a nail or fix a screw, sit down with a piece of paper and sketch out your bathroom as you would like it. Think of the type of look you want. Ultra-modern? Victorian? 1950s? The choice is yours, but make sure you have really made up your mind before starting anything.

Once you've decided on the look, get hold of a lot of decorating supply catalogs and leaf through them. (This can be a great way to come up with ideas in the first place). Then make a list of all the pieces you need, right down to the last ornament. This includes things such as doorknobs.

And don't forget the taps. The design of tap can make or break a bathroom.

When you have all your pieces listed, go through those catalogs and check out the prices. Then it's time to budget the job. Make a note of how much each piece costs and make sure you have enough money (or will have as you proceed through the job) to buy everything you need.

Once the budget is done and you know exactly where you're going, now is the time to start work. Do an hour hear and an hour there and your bathroom remodel will take place before your eyes.

In fact you'll begin to enjoy seeing your plan come to fruition, and will be able to savor each moment as each part of your bathroom gets a new look.. Then when it's finished you'll at last have a place that's worthy of you to relax in.
